Tom Stewart founded Stellar in 1995 when by a wonderful series of events he was introduced to the Native American Flute. The experience of making flutes, honing techniques, and creatively adding to the flute-making technology has been an engaging, arduous, and fulfilling task. It has come closer than anything ever has to tapping Tom's talents and energies to their fullest. His focus is true and he loves his work.
In 1999 Tom's son, Matt, joined Stellar. His carving skills became clear when he picked up a piece of wood and started carving his first block. Matt has put a constantly changing face on our flutes. His inventive mind has led to many important technical break-throughs. Together Tom and Matt make a hardworking knowledgeable, and dynamic team.

Tom's daughter, Lily, has become a real asset at the many arts-and-craft fairs we attend each year. She is very knowledgeable about flute woods and keys and is good at helping customers select the right flute. Recently she took over applying the thread-work decoration to the flutes.
Tom's wife, Erika, the original thread-works decorator, developed the specific weaving patterns used on our flutes. They have become a signature of Stellar Flutes.
